A Shoe Drive for Detroit Kids in Need

Every day, kids across Detroit go without something as basic as shoes that fit. This year, Chevy Detroit Dealers are teaming up with Lace Up Detroit to put new shoes and socks on the feet of local children — and you can help, right here at our dealership, now through September 30th.

A New Pair of Shoes Can Change a Child's Day

For many Detroit kids, a worn-out pair of shoes that no longer fits is just a fact of life. When a family has to choose between dinner on the table and new shoes, dinner wins every time — and most of the children who receive shoes through this drive have never owned a new pair before. That's why we're joining Lace Up Detroit, a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, to collect new shoes and socks for kids right here in our community.

The Need Is Real, and It's Close to Home

4 out of every 5 students in the Detroit Public Schools Community District come from economically disadvantaged households. Since 2015, Lace Up Detroit has put more than 18,000 pairs of new shoes and boots — plus 7,000 pairs of socks — on the feet of kids across Southeast Michigan.

Where Your Donation Goes

Every pair of shoes and socks collected through Step Up for Kids goes directly to Detroit Public School kids in need. On October 7 — Michigan's Count Day — donations are delivered into the hands of local children, with roughly 1,000 kids served that day alone.
